Horse Race 2010

Friday July 2nd 2010 in Siena Piazza del Campo 10 contrade (districts) of the city will fight for the Provenzano\\\'s Palio (horse race).

10 over 17 teams fight on the July\\\'s palio, the other 7 will run the following year together with other 3 ones that will be choose at randon draw.
Every contrada gets a random horse in the morning of June 29th for the July\\\'s Palio and August 13th for the Assunta\\\'s Palio: this is the \\\"tratta\\\",
the first appointment of a holiday that lasts 4 days.

The horse race is about 3 laps of Piazza Del Campo, on a tuff track made on the higher ring. The start is at the \\\"mossa\\\" an area made by two ropes where the horses fit according to an order chose at random draw.
When the last one is in, the front rope goes down and the race start.
The winner is the horse that, with or without horse-jockey, arrive first at the end of the three laps.
The prize is the Palio, or \\\"Drappellone\\\", a drape made every year by a different artist chosen by the City of Siena.
A precious prize that the winning contrada will appreciate and take care in its museum for ever.
